Would-Be Burglars Burn Door in Attempt to Break Into Petaluma Business

DeCarli's Propane and M. Maselli and Sons were targeted Wednesday morning.

A Petaluma business had its front door lit on fire overnight and another had its windows broken out, in what police are calling a pair of attempted burglaries.

Around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, police and fire department authorities responded to DeCarli's Propane at 423 Wilson St. They found a smoldering front door, and an employee who said he or she was alerted by the business' alarm to a door someone had apparently tried to light on fire, according to a press release.

The employee was able to extinguish the fire, Petaluma Police said.

About an hour later, officers leaving the propane business heard an alarm coming from about a block away. They arrived at M. Maselli & Sons, Inc., 519 Lakeville St., to find windows broken out at the business.

The person who smashed the windows was already gone by the time officers arrived, according to the press release.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call police at 707-778-4372.
