Three people were injured in the incident.

Three people were injured Sunday afternoon in an apparent gang fight near West Ninth Street and Rockwell Place, according to Santa Rosa police.

Police first received reports of the fight shortly before 4:30 p.m., when several residents called 911 to report a disturbance in front of the Puerta Villa apartment complex at 825 West Ninth St, according to Sgt. John Cregan.

Subjects fled the scene as police arrived, but officers were able to stop a vehicle leaving the scene that had a flat tire, Cregan said.

Inside were four Santa Rosa residents between 17 and 20 years old, three of whom were bleeding and had injuries consistent with a recent fight, Cregan said.

Investigators determined that the four male subjects, all of whom were wearing red clothing associated with criminal street gangs, were driving on West Ninth when they made a wrong turn on to Rockwell Place, Cregan said.

A group of alleged gang members standing on Rockwell Places potted the car and challenged the victims, throwing glass beer bottles at their car, Cregan said.

The suspects broke two of the windows on the vehicle and punctured a tire. When the victims stepped out of the vehicle, they were assaulted and one of the suspects smashed a beer bottle over one of the victim's head, Cregan said.

The victims then attempted to flee the area before an officer stopped the vehicle.

Anyone with witnessed the assault is asked to contact police at (707) 543-3670.
