4 Bay Area Cities Among the Most Diverse in the US

A U.S. Census Bureau study shows cities where ethnic populations are nearly equal. Three of those cities are in Solano County.

Although most might think of San Francisco as home to most liberally diverse population in California, you'll have to move the family to Solano County for measurable equality of ethnic diversity statistics. Three cities in the northern Bay Area county are among the most diversified in the country with no ethnic group making up more than 50 percent of the population.

The US Census has reported that by 2050, there will be no racial or ethnic majority in the United States. Vallejo, Suisun City and Fairfield are among the top 20 cities in the nation as rated for equality of ethnic distribution by the U.S. Census bureau.  They were rated 1st, 3rd, & 14th most diverse cities in America, according to census analysis.  California had nine of the top 20 most diversified cities in the U.S.

The overall scores were calculated by measuring how near the population was to an equal distribution of residents across the four most common ethnic groups: Hispanic/Latino, White (non-Hispanic), Black (non-Hispanic), and Asian/Pacific Islander (non-Hispanic).

The study didn’t measure gender, lifestyle or income levels in the groups.

The study, which was highlighted on the personal finance website nerdwallet also showed California is home to the top two least diversified cities in the U.S.  The cities, Huntington Park and East Los Angeles are both in Southern California and are about 98 percent Hispanic.
