Deer Creek Alternatives Workshop

Opponents of the current design of the Deer Creek Village development at North McDowell and Rainier are holding a workshop this Saturday to discuss ways to improve the project.

The meeting is being organized by Greenbelt Alliance, California Infill Builders Council and Sonoma County Conservation Action.

The goal of the meeting is to get get input from neighbors of the project along with the rest of the community, with hopes of finding ways to make the development more pedestrian friendly.

The 345 acre complex would bring a Lowe's to the East Side, along with smaller shops and office spaces. Proponents have said the project is needed to prevent consumers from spending money in other cities, while opponents argue that the development will be built in sensitive wetland areas, will significantly impact traffic and air quality.

A Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) was presented to the council in March and a Final EIR is expected sometime in August.
