Fall Election Guide: Q& A With City Council Candidate Tiffany Renee

After a failed congressional bid, Renee is throwing her hat in the ring for another term on council; From advocating for foreclosure moratorium to improving bicycle and pedestrian access, says she has track record of getting things done.

Bio:

Current councilwoman. Owner of Design Motif, a web design and branding consultancy. Sonoma County Transportation Authority Board of Directors and Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District Board of Directors; Co-founder of Petaluma Grange. Endorsed by Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey

Age: 40

Top 3 Issues:
Creating and retaining living wage jobs
Protecting our environment, clean water and clean air
Long-term funding for stormwater

How I’m different:
“I have elective experience and a strong track record of public service, having served on numerous boards and commissions. I’m the hardest working out of all the candidates and that shows in terms of what I’ve been able to accomplish and bring home to Petaluma, including increasing trail networks for pedestrians and cyclists and improving connections between Eastside and Westside. Also getting carpool lanes put in on Highway 101.”

How I’d Raise New Revenues:
“Building two new hotels would really increase our ability to serve our visitors since we are at capacity on many weekends. If we increase the number of beds in town, we’ll be able to increase the number of visitors to Petaluma.”

“We still have a lot of bank-owned properties, so anything we can do to put them back on the market will help, including dealing with the condition of our streets.”

On Sales Tax Increase:
“It wasn’t viable for this election season, but many people have made a commitment to seeing it come back in the next election cycle in two years. So I want to focus on what that should look like, creating a special tax so it gets wider community support and everyone knows where the money is going.”
