Make 50K or Less? Get Free Tax Help at the Library

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program begins this weekend

If the thought of filling out a 1040 makes your head spin, there is hope: volunteers with the IRS are offering free tax-preparation help through the agency's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

It's available to those making $51,000 or less per year, according to the IRS.

Locally, help is available in both English and Spanish at the Petaluma Regional Library, located at 100 Fairgrounds Drive. Appointments are required, so call 707-765-2551 to set one up.

“This program provides free tax preparation to individuals and families who may not be able to afford a tax preparer," California Board of Equalization Member George Runner said.

"Connecting low-income earners with the Earned Income Tax Credit provides them with valuable support during difficult economic times and boosts our state and local economy."
