Petaluma Names New Assistant City Attorney

Andrea Visveshwara served as Assistant City Attorney for the City of San Luis Obispo since 2010.

Petaluma’s new in-house City Attorney’s Department announced its new hire, Andrea Visveshwara, as an Assistant City Attorney. 

Visveshwara, who served as Assistant City Attorney for the City of San Luis Obispo since May 2010, begins her new role June 2.  

“I am very excited to welcome Andrea to Petaluma and to the City Attorney team,” said City Attorney Eric Danly.  “Andrea really impressed our interview panel with her energy and enthusiasm for the position and for serving City officials, staff and the community.”

Before her work in San Luis Obispo, Visveshwara spent four years as a public law associate with the former McDonough, Holland and Allen firm in Oakland.  

Visveshwara brings a broad range of experience and expertise to the Petaluma City Attorney’s Department.

“While in the San Luis Obispo City Attorney’s Office, Andrea initiated some exciting new programs,” said Danly.  “I look forward to her contributions in Petaluma as we build the new City Attorney’s Department."  

In San Luis Obispo, she provided legal support to the Administration, Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, Community Development, Public Works, Utilities, Police, and Fire Departments.  

She also covered Planning Commission meetings, and City Council meetings in the absence of the City Attorney, acted as City Prosecutor, represented the city in litigation at the trial court and appellate levels, and assisted in administering the City Attorney’s Office.  

"Having Andrea on our team will make possible commencing some projects I have been eager to begin since joining the City as a City employee," he continued, "such as overhauling the City’s purchasing system, streamlining its contracting process, and providing staff  resources in support of these programs, to name just a few.”
