Petaluma Seniors Travel to Sacramento to Protest Impending Cuts

Delegation fighting proposed cuts to senior services, which benefits local organizations such as PEP Housing

A group of Petaluma seniors traveled to Sacramento this week to protest Governor Jerry Brown's proposed cuts to redevelopment agencies, which affordable housing relies on.

The group, made up representatives from and other local and regional affordable housing organizations, senior residents and volunteers on Wednesday met with law makers to share their own stories and urge them to protect funds for senior housing.

Other senior residents who were unable to travel to the state capitol, wrote letters that were personally delivered to legislators.

“Our hope is to demonstrate to legislators who are deciding the fate of our budget in Sacramento that affordable housing for seniors is a priority that we can’t afford to cut,” said PEP Housing Executive Director Mary Stompe.
