Sean Penn to Make Appearance in Petaluma Tuesday

Will lend some star power to the Norman Solomon campaign

Actor, director and humanitarian aid activist Sean Penn will be making an appearance at the next Tuesday to endorse Norman Solomon, a candidate in the race for the 2nd Congressional District, which includes Petaluma.

Doors will open at 4 pm and there will be advance ticketing. Admission is a $10 donation.

Solomon, an author and political activist from Marin, met Penn in 2002 and the two formed a friendship over their strong opposition to the Iraq war. They traveled together to Baghdad in December of that year to encourage alternatives to invading the country and also worked on a movie called “War Made Easy,” which focused on the media spin that led up to the March 2003 invasion.

“We’ve worked together so much and agonized over so many of the same events,” Norman told Petaluma Patch Thursday. “We’re like kindred spirits politically.”

Solomon is running for Congress in the new coastal district that stretches from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border. Other candidates in the race include Petaluma City Councilwoman Tiffany Renee, Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) and Marin County Supervisor Susan Adams.
