Sonoma County Employees Donate $286,000 During Fund Drive

The annual Sonoma County Combined Fund Drive was held Sept. 1, 2013 to Nov. 8, 2013.

An annual fall fund drive urging Sonoma County workers to donate to their favorite charities has raised the most money since 2008.

The 23rd-annual Sonoma County Combined Fund Drive raised $285,968 between Sept. 1 and Nov. 8, according to a press release.

"This level of giving is truly incredible and demonstrates the dedication and compassion we have in the County toward our community," Sonoma County Board of Supervisors Chair David Rabbitt said in the press release.

United Way of the Wine Country partnered with the county for the fund drive, but employees could donate to any nonprofit. The county urged workers to give via payroll deductions, and produced a video (embedded above) built around this year's theme of "the Heart of Sonoma County."

Last year, 26 percent of employees donated; that number increased this year, although the drive fell short of its $300,000 goal.

Over the last six years, the employee fund drives have raised $3.5 million for local nonprofits, according to the press release.
