Voter Registration Moves Online
Sonoma County Registrar of Voters says change removes one more barrier to voting; hopes it will increase turn-out among young adults.
Local residents not yet registered to vote, who have moved or are changing party affiliations, can now do so without leaving their home.
Starting this year, California is offering voter registration that is 100 percent online. Previously, voters could access the registration form online, but had to print it out and drop in the mail.
“It removes one more barrier and anything we can do to make voting simpler, is a good thing,” said Janice Atkinson, the registrar of voters. “I think students will find this particularly helpful because they are so used to doing everything online.”
