What Roads Need Fixing in Sonoma County?
A "Sonoma Valley Road Summit" will be held Oct. 9 in Sonoma.
How can Sonoma County roads be improved? That's what an Oct. 9 forum in Santa Rosa will ask residents.
The forum, "Sonoma Valley Road Summit," will feature a panel discussion with Sonoma County Transportation and Public Works Director Susan Klassen.
In 2011, the Bay Area Metropolitan Transportation Commission ranked Sonoma County roads second-worst in the region, and Petaluma's were only four positions better. Sonoma County roads received a Pavement Condition Index of 45 out of 100, while Petaluma received a 52 out of 100.
The road summit event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 at Ramekins, 450 West Spain St. in Sonoma. It will be broadcast live on SVTV, cable channel 27.

Residents encouraged to attend to get their questions answered
SONOMA – Exploring how Sonoma County’s roads became among the worst in the state and if it’s possible to turn the situation around will be the topic of the “Sonoma Valley Road Summit” on Wed., Oct. 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Ramekins, 450 West Spain St., Sonoma.
The road summit includes a panel discussion, featuring Sonoma County Transportation and Public Works Director Susan Klassen, followed by a question and answer session and dialog with the audience. Boyes Hot Springs resident, and County Board of Education Trustee, Gina Cuclis is organizing and convening the event in collaboration with Save Our Sonoma Roads (SOSroads).
SOSroads is a countywide, grassroots group founded in 2011 to improve the condition of Sonoma County roads. Craig Harrison and Michael Troy, co-founders and leaders of SOSroads, will be on the panel. First District Supervisor Susan Gorin will give an opening statement. Cuclis will moderate.
Cuclis said: “I have been following the county road issue for several years and saw there was a need in Sonoma Valley for better information. I told the panelists the objective is to provide information that is concrete, honest and useful for those of us who live every day with the problem of our county’s crumbling roads. As moderator, I intend to get people’s questions answered. More than half the scheduled time is devoted to dialog with the audience.”
