Novato’s Priciest Homes: 681 Atherton Ave.

Every week, we feature one of the most expensive homes for sale in Novato.

Exceptional craftsmanship and style are the foundation for this newly constructed contemporary home. Built under the "Build it Green" requirements of Marin County, this property offers everything for the most discriminating buyer.

A generous great room features sliding doors leading to a deck and large patio, perfect for entertaining or dining al fresco.

The huge backyard has a level lawn and landscaping, a SMART irrigation system, and is zoned for equestrian use. Leading from the great room to the kitchen is a large in-formal dining area with a nearby wet bar surrounded by ample built-ins.

The adjacent chef's kitchen features a large Cararra marble island with a prep sink and dining area, a Wolf range, two ovens, built-in microwave, elegant lighting, cathedral ceilings, extensive cabinetry, and two skylights adding to the tons of natural light.

The generous dining room retains a feeling of warmth but is large enough for holiday gatherings and entertaining. The contiguous formal living room adds to the excellent flow of this home, with a fireplace and sliding doors out to the patio and yard.

Head down the hall to the bedrooms and you will first find a romantic master suite with a fireplace, spacious closet, and elegant bathroom. Four additional bedrooms and three full bathrooms complete this section of the home.

The fifth bedroom makes for a perfect guest suite or office. Other features include air conditioning, high-end appliances throughout, an attached 2-car garage with room for storage, a laundry/mud room, hardwood floors, wool carpeting in the bedroom areas, and exterior fireproofing.

The close proximity to shopping, restaurants, exceptional schools, the wine country, and fantastic weather all add to this very special property.

The 3,482-square foot house lists for $1,675,000 ($481 per sq. ft.).

The house is represented by Decker Bullock Sothebys.

"Featured Property" with a variety may be more appropriate. Or a "priciest," "moderate," and "bargain." I find it to be weak filler.

Is it too much to ask for photos that are in focus? You look like rank amateurs with that kitchen photo.

Silly, mean people! I love this feature! I love seeing all aspects of our community, and I enjoy the weekly glimpse into the top end of the real estate market. I see affordable, regular houses every day, all around me. I don't need them to be pointed out for my benefit.

Awesome Ann..then you can look at the "pricey" section and others can view what they choose. Just a shallow section frankly, but maybe I am a "silly mean person."
