October might be the perfect month for baking. Crisp days and chilly nights call for sweet, satisfying treats, and the flavors of the season---apples, pumpkin, and spices---effortlessly lend themselves to cakes, pies and cupcakes. Add the fact that we celebrate Halloween; a holiday so inalienable from sweets that it's practically synonymous with candy, on the final day of the month, and one can harness nearly endless kitchen inspiration in the first full month of autumn.
To celebrate this beautiful and festive season, i Leoni is hosting our first annual cupcake bake-off and bake sale benefit on October 13th in conjunction with Downtown Petaluma's First Annual Harvest Days celebration. Considering that Halloween celebrations are practically on par with Christmas and the Fourth of July in Petaluma, we thought that it would be the perfect time to host our first community baking contest and raise money for a very good cause.
Here's the deal: contestants must bake and decorate twenty-four original Halloween or harvest themed cupcakes, three will be judged by our panel of local experts, the other twenty one will be sold at a bake sale that day with the proceeds benefiting Petaluma COTS. We'll be crowning winners in two categories, adults and juniors, and the winners will receive fabulous prizes from i Leoni, Petaluma Market and Clover Stornetta, and earn bragging as they are crowned the best cupcake baker in Petaluma.
Contestants must register with i Leoni by October 12th, please see our official rules for entry guidelines. If you're not into baking, you should still come out to enjoy a beautiful October day and eat a cupcake for a good cause. Good luck to everyone, and may the spookiest cupcake win!
