Start Your Ovens! It's i Leoni's 1st Annual Christmas Cookie Bake-off!

Christmas was a magical time when I was a girl. My family home was warm and festively adorned with gorgeous decorations, and me and my cousins enjoyed a seemingly endless supply of my maternal grandmother's traditional Italian cookies. On Christmas morning we'd wake up to piles of beautiful presents, then sit down for a delicious Christmas brunch which would often linger into the afternoon when we'd go to our paternal grandparent's home to play with our cousins by a towering Christmas tree in front of a roaring fire. There was Christmas Mass, St. Nicholas presents, hot coca on cold evenings, Christmas stories, and long, meticulously prepared letters to Santa. So many wonderful, happy days. I was one lucky kid.

Though we were surrounded by plenty and comfort, my parents made sure that we spent time during each Christmas season working to help the less fortunate. In addition to the money and gifts we dutifully collected for less fortunate children at St. Vincent Elementary School, my mother would take us shopping each Christmas to buy gifts for foster children. We were taught that want isn't limited to the Holiday Season, but that it's especially important to think of those among us who struggle to make ends meet at this time of the year, when the days are cold and those who live with less are perhaps even more aware of all of the things that they live without.
Thus, in the spirit of Christmas we're proud to announce that i Leoni is hosting a Holiday Bake-Off to benefit COTS here in Petaluma. Here's the deal: you bake your best batch of homemade Christmas cookies. It can be anything; a recipe passed down for generations in your family, to gingerbread men decorated as hipsters. The cookies will be judged by a three judge panel, and two winners will be crowned, one junior and one adult.
Then we'll host a bake sale all day at i Leoni, with the proceeds going to COTS Petaluma. It''ll be a fun, cheerful way to help the neediest members of our community, and who doesn't love a bake sale?
