Circus Time at Lagunitas

Vaudeville-style benefit on Sunday, May 20 raises money for local schools

Petalumans have an interest in all things historic.

We host the Rivertown Revival, Butter and Egg Days and many other events that recreate an earlier era.

On Sunday, May 20, Lagunitas Brewery takes its guests back to the vaudeville era at the fourth annual Beer Circus. Vaudeville, taken from the French phrase "vaux de ville" or "worthy of the city", is a style of entertainment that emcompassed both high and low culture, for example featuring burlesque dancers alongside Shakespearean plays.

Lagunitas' Beer Circus attempts to strike a similar tone, featuring aerial artists, snake dancers, clowns, sword swallowers, contrortionists as well as numerous bands. Of course, there will be plenty of beer and special treats like barbequed oysters, paella, pizza and bangers.

Check out a video of last year's Beer Circus on the right (psst, it gets good right around 4:30)

Tickets are $40 or $25 if you're the designated driver. All proceeds benefit music programs at Petaluma schools. For more information, check out lagunitas.com/beercircus
