Daily Acts Sustainability Tour: Backyard Feather Revolution

 ,   Add to calendar
245 Kentucky St Petaluma CA 94952  See map

In this tour, we’ll meet Suzanne & Paul Mackey’s “eggcentric” feathered friends and tour their Petaluma urban homestead. In addition to chickens, the Mackeys keep ducks who thrive on escargot collected from neighbors’ gardens. Providing eggs, fertilizer and pest control, these happy tenants are essential nutrient cyclers in the garden. The Mackeys are active resource cyclers themselves, savvy at keeping their homestead as low-input as possible. Next, we’ll learn from local coop experts Michael & Dana Yares about appropriate chicken coop siting and building for your backyard, care and feeding of chickens, and managing egg production.

We’ll end this tour with a return to Catchtail Gardens, a long-time Daily Acts favorite and home of Deborah Grace and Djubaya. Here, we’ll see a cutting-edge chicken coop boasting a living roof. In addition, we’ll see innovative water-harvesting systems, and tour this awe-inspiring permaculture oasis. We’ll share information, resources and a potluck lunch. Learn from seasoned homesteaders, talk through your questions and concerns. Come away ready and egg-cited to join the backyard feather revolution.
