Piano Concert and Lecture at SRJC

Among New Orleans' distinctive contributions to American and world musical culture is a rich and highly original tradition of piano music.

On Monday, March 5, Dr. Joel Rudinow will give a talk about the city's piano tradition and play some songs at the Petaluma campus of the Santa Rosa Junior College. The event starts at 1:30pm at the Carole L. Ellis Auditorium.

In this illustrated talk, "the Doctor" will discuss the New Orleans Piano Tradition from the ragtime era through post-war rhythm and blues and rock-n-roll to the present. Rudinow will perform on a restored 1917 vintage Steinway concert grand piano, recently gifted to SRJC by the Friends of Petaluma Campus Trust.

Rudinow is a former chair of the SRJC Philosophy department and author of "Soul Music: Tracking the Spiritual Roots of Pop from Plato to Motown" who moonlights on keyboards in American roots music bands.

The event is free and open to the public. Parking in the school's lot is $4.
