Two-Day Workshop: Sustainable & Savvy Seaweed Harvest Lecture: Thursday, June 7th 7pm-9pm Workshop: Saturday, June 9th 9am-12pm, $65
Spend two days learning about seaweed. First is an evening workshop in Petaluma getting a scrumptious sampling from the Ceres Project, with boundless information about the nuts and bolts of harvesting. Then comes a luscious morning with Daily Acts at the shore with hands-on harvesting on Saturday. You’ll learn all the whys and hows of environmentally sound and savvy seaweed collection.
Heidi Herrmann is an agriculture instructor at SRJC, an avid seaweed harvester and owner of Strong Arm Farms in Healdsburg. Once we hit the coast, she will explain how to sustainably collect this nutritious sea vegetable, including how to allow for vegetative regrowth, and how to identify varieties like Wakame, Kombu, Bladderwrack and the abundant, protein-rich Nori. She’ll explain everything from concerns of pollutants and protecting the coastlines, to the health benefits of seaweed. This evening and early morning will be chock full of information about this incredible, age-old food and fuel of the future.
