Petaluma High School Student Reprimanded After Posting Comments Against Teacher on Facebook

Student body president Haley Rearden has been dismissed from her post and won't be allowed to address graduating class

Petaluma High School student body president Haley Rearden is fighting for the chance to address the graduating class after being reprimanded by the school following Facebook comments in which she said that she imagined a teacher as a clay pigeon that she wanted to shoot with her shotgun, according to an article in today's Press Democrat.

Rearden, 18, has since apologized for the post, but says the school’s determination that the post constitute a terrorist threat are overblown and that she deserves a chance to give the commencement speech to her class.

Rearden said the comment was a joke, but in this era of  school violence and cyber bullying, teachers and administrators are not taking it lightly.
