Petaluma Students Take Part in an International Art Project

Started in Florida, Pinwheels for Peace has spread to the Middle East, Europe and beyond

Students from  make pinwheels, part of Pinwheels for Peace, an international art and literacy project started by two Florida teachers in 2005.

Since then, schools all over the world have participated, with the goal of giving students a chance to express their thoughts about what peace means to them, whether it’s in the context of war or in their family or community.

“To each of us, peace can take on a different meaning,” write the organizers, “but, in the end, it all comes down to a simple definition: a state of calm and serenity, with no anxiety, the absence of violence, freedom from conflict or disagreement among people or groups of people.”
