Key to Awesomeness: Jocelyn spent four weeks of her summer break volunteering with the North Bay Conservation Corps Project ReGeneration, a program that focuses on teaching kids environmental ethics, self-confidence and leadership skills. In the program, Jocelyn pulled invasive plants at local parks, learned how to garden and worked at the Petaluma Wildlife Rescue where she and others built enclosures for animals.

“What really stood out for me was how much one person can do, even if it’s just in one day,” she says.

The ReGeneration program is open to all residents of Sonoma and Marin counties and places a big emphasis on giving participants a deeper understanding of environmental issues, while exposing them to a variety of career opportunities.

“You can really educate others about how to conserve and reduce your own use of water and electricity,” Jocelyn says.

Prior to attending SVHS, Jocelyn was a student a Petaluma Junior High where she was played alto saxophone in the school’s marching band and was an honor student.
