An Aching Heart

Domestic violence happens in every community, but help is available.

Today I am deeply saddened by the death of a mother and helper of our community. While I didn’t know Kim Conover, I feel affected by this loss for many reasons.  Probably many the same as you.

I am affected as a mother, as a wife, as a helper of children, and simply as a human being.  My heart aches.

Domestic abuse and violence is so prevalent in every community and Ioften feel baffled at how human beings can hurt one another, especially those we love. I will continue to pray for Kim, her children, the families, her students, and the community.

May her death not be in vain. May Petaluma not stand for the violence and aggression that takes place behind closed doors. May we not turn a blind eye to people who are hurting and suffering and know the warning signs to help those in need by offering a kind word of support and gestures to help keep people safe.  May we also connect with those who are perpetrators of violence. May they listen and allow themselves to be helped and healed.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office website offers a variety of information and resources for domestic violence and victims’ of crime, including the YWCA 24-hour Domestic Violence Hotline 546-1234.  There are also many excellent resources on gaining knowledge and understanding about the cycle of domestic violence and abuse.
