Prison escapee arrested in Santa Rosa

A Santa Rosa man wanted for escaping from Lompoc Federal Prison was arrested Friday and subsequently connected with a suspected marijuana cultivation and sales operation, police said.

Domingo Tamayo, 34, of Santa Rosa was arrested at 8 a.m. Friday on an outstanding federal warrant for escaping from prison. Santa Rosa police detectives and officers on the gang crimes, violent crimes, and narcotic teams then served search warrants at several locations in Santa Rosa, according to police.

During the searches, detectives uncovered a suspected marijuana cultivation and sales operation, including approximately 50 pounds of marijuana, a loaded handgun and $10,000 in cash, according to police.

Tamayo now faces six felony charges in addition to the outstanding warrant. The charges include possession of marijuana for sale, cultivation of marijuana, felon in possession of a firearm, theft of utility services, child endangerment and suspect armed in act of a felony.

Police did not say when Tamayo escaped from prison. He was being held in Sonoma County Jail without bail on Friday.
