Casa Grande Reigns Supreme in Lacrosse...Again

Gauchos claim second straight state title

The Gauchos defended their title in the boys California prep club lacrosse championship in a 7-6 game last Sunday at the state's final four in El Segundo.

It was a wild weekend that began with Casa Grande losing 12-11 to Simi Valley, the top-ranking team in the state, in the semi-finals. But when Simi Valley was disqualified from the tournament for using ineligible players, the Gauchos advanced to the championship game instead.

The Pacific Lacrosse League commissioner confirmed that Simi Valley used one and potentially more players that were recruited from another school.

The Gauchos opened up an early led with a goal by Tyler White who went coast to coast for the score. A pair of goals each from Buddy Suder and Anthony Petragia gave Casa a 6-3 lead.

The second half was more tough and defensive, and the Panthers were able to trim their deficit to 6-5. Suder answered with a goal to give the Gaucho lead some insurance. Santa Rosa pulled back within a goal with three minutes remaining, but could not get the equalizer in the waning moments of the contest. Tony Tescallo was able to run out the final thirty seconds to clinch the victory for Casa.

Casa's win over Santa Rosa avenged a loss from earlier in the season, when Santa Rosa the Panthers won the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association championship.
