Former Giants Closer Brian Wilson Signs With the Dodgers

Wilson collected 171 saves with the Giants but missed most of last season after undergoing reconstructive elbow surgery.

Brian Wilson, the charismatic bearded closer who was a central figure in the Giants 2010 World Series championship run, has signed with the rival Los Angeles Dodgers, according to multiple reports.

Yahoo's Tim Brown broke the story this morning on Twitter.

Wilson is expected to report to the Dodgers Glendale, Ariz., spring training facility and likely report to Class-A Rancho Cucamonga in the California League on a rehab assignment before playing for the Dodgers, according to a Brown tweet estimating a two-week timetable before he'll pitch in the majors.

Wilson collected 171 saves in seven seasons with the Giants with a career-high 48 in 2010. The Giants drafted Wilson in the 24th round of the 2003 amateur draft out of LSU.

Wilson became a free agent when the Giants declined to offer him a contract in December. The Giants were rumored to be among four teams to offer Wilson a contract after auditions earlier this month according to published reports.
