Three Local Students to be Honored for Academic Excellence

Will receive $1,000 each at next week's ceremony in Sacramento

Three Petaluma students will be honored at the state Capitol for outstanding scholastic achievement next Thursday and receive $1,000 scholarship for college. 

The winners include Guadalupe Garcia-Cervantes, a student at Petaluma High School, Jacob Jovick, who attends Casa Grande and Jazmin Vaca from St. Vincent de Paul High School.

The three join 180 high school scholarship winners from around the state in receiving a total of $200,000, courtesy of Comcast.

Two lucky students will receive $10,000 scholarships, and 25 will have their name drawn for a Netbook computer. Students and their families will also receive a tour of the State Capitol and the California Museum of Women and the Arts.
