Whiz Kid: Riley Scott

Local swimmer ranks fifth in the nation in swimming for her age group and has qualified for the Swimming Junior National Championships this summer

Key to Awesomeness: Scott, who trains with the Marin Pirates swim team in Novato, has been placing high at numerous state and national competitions. She captured two first place finishes at a regional competion earlier this month and competed in the National Swim Coaches Association (NSCA) Junior Nationals Championships in Orlando, Florida in March, where she made the finals in the 200 yard breaststroke.

Her winning time currently ranks her fifth in the nation in the under 14 age group and qualified her for the USA Swimming Junior National Championships this summer at Stanford. 

"I'm very proud of Riley's performance as being a Far Western Champion has been one of our goals that we have been looking toward for the past couple of years," said coach Tom Evers. "Riley has worked extremely hard to get where she is and is carrying herself very well with her well deserved success."

"Being a great swimmer is a long journey with lots of bumps in the road," Scott's coach said. "There is no doubt that Riley has the potential to achieve very lofty goals...Maintaining an even keel mentality through the ups and downs and working as hard as you can are paramount to future success.”
