Reddit's Top 10 subreddits - Part 1

In my last post, I wrote about the wonders of Reddit. This week, we'll begin counting down the top 10 subreddits!

#10 - /r/Adviceanimals

What better place to start our list than the home of some of Reddit’s best memes? Even though the subreddit is called “adviceanimals,” what you’ll find inside are all kinds of funny memes! Two of the most popular are Success Kid (He represents those moments in life where you just have to say “YEAH!”) and Good Guy Greg (He’s the guy who, upon realizing you forgot to buy your friend a birthday gift, says his present is from both of you).

Here’s the problem with most “fun facts”: they usually aren’t very fun. Who cares if sharks can blink with two eyes, or if a Big Mac costs 50 cents more in Iceland? Most people don’t.

TodayILearned is a miracle: a never ending stockpile of forgotten news stories, crazy observations, and “fun facts” that are actually fun. Remember the time the Soviet Union traded working submarines and naval destroyers for Pepsi? Or, maybe you remember when all of Congress had to be banned from Wikipedia because they kept messing with each other’s articles? You do now! (And that’s the fun of this subreddit.)

#8 - /r/JusticePorn

Don’t worry. This isn’t a subreddit where women dress up as Judge Judy! It’s a community filled with stories like the little guy getting his day in court and a boss who refuses to pay overtime getting found out by the Department of Labor. Browsing through pages and pages of proof that sometimes the good guy wins can really help restore your faith in the world.

#7 - /r/LifeProTips

Everyone has little tricks to help them make it through the day. Maybe you have a way to stop a mosquito bite from itching or you know of a great free service that fills a need most people pay through the nose for. Sometimes you exchange those tips with friends!

/r/LifeProTips is a community of more than five hundred thousand friends like that, and each one wants nothing more than to post all the cool ways people can make their lives better. Save hundreds on air travel! Make damaged wooden furniture look like new! Stop coworkers from stealing your pen! All this and more on /r/LifeProTips!

#6 - /r/tipofmytongue/

You have a song stuck in your head, but you don’t quite remember the lyrics. You remember a hilarious moment from a TV show, but you don’t remember which episode it’s from. You know a really amazing, incredibly profound quote, but you don’t know who said it!

I’ll take “things that drive people crazy” for 300, Alex!

Almost remembering something – but not quite – is one of the most annoying, insanity inducing feelings known to man. /r/tipofmytongue is a community where you post about those half remembered things, and other users help you figure them out. They might tell you the full name of a forgotten TV show, link you the lyrics of a mysterious song, or even find you a post on Reddit you found particularly funny or insightful.

That’s the sort of thing that can really make your day!
