Friends of Missing Petaluma Man Raising Money for Recovery Effort

Shawn Chaddock, 49, has been missing since July 3

Friends and family of Petaluma resident Shawn Chaddock, one of seven men missing after a fishing boat sank July 3 in Baja, are trying to raise funds to pay for divers to search the vessel, located more than 200 feet under water off the coast of San Felipe, Mexico.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard and Mexican Navy called off the 10-day search for the fishermen, after covering more than 7,000 miles of sea and water. But family members believe that the men may be in the boat and are determined to get divers to investigate the wreck.

"We've called and written the Department of Defense, but they say they don't have the capacity to do a dive," said Lorie Goldbeck, one of the friends organizing the effort. "We're really trying to step it up and pull it together."

On Sunday, the friends are gathering at Roundtable Pizza at 3pm in Rincon Valley to brainstorm ideas to raise funds for a recovery effort. One of the ideas is a poker run for Chaddock, a mechanic and avid Harley Davidson fan.
