River Clean Up Seeking Volunteers

Annual event scheduled for Saturday, May 5

The Annual Petaluma River Cleanup and Watershed Fair is looking for volunteers for its Saturday, May 5 event.

For 18 years now, the spring river cleanup has been an annual event in which hundreds of volunteers pick up trash and debris from the river, beautifying our little waterway while getting outdoors and meeting new friends.

The year I participated, treasures found during the event included a grain hopper, mattresses, a full size refrigerator, live ammunition and a wallet with identification and bank cards.

All in all, volunteers collected a total of 30 cubic yards of trash, making the river safer for watercraft and easier on the eyes. Wonder what will turn up this year?
