Replica Vietnam Memorial Coming to Petaluma

The memorial will be on display Thursday through Sunday in Petaluma.

While the federal government is shut down, visitors aren't allowed at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.

But Sonoma County residents can see a scaled-down replica this week without even getting on a plane.

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute's "Traveling Wall", a 80-percent scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial standing eight feet tall at its peak, will be on display Thursday through Sunday at the Petaluma Community Center, 320 N. McDowell Blvd.

It will arrive Wednesday and a 1 p.m. opening ceremony will be held Thursday, according to http://historyconnection.net/.

A candlelight vigil will be held 8 p.m. Friday for "Petaluma Remembered Day," and a "Purple Heart Day" ceremony will be held 1 p.m. Saturday. The visit will wrap up with a "Women in Vietnam" presentation at 1 p.m. Sunday.

More information is available at http://historyconnection.net/, the Petaluma Argus-Courier and the American Veterans Traveling Tribute website.
