Car Seat Safety Check and Drug Take-Backs This Weekend

Two events will be held Saturday, Oct. 26–one in Petaluma and one in Rohnert Park. The Rohnert Park event will also include car seat safety checks.

Area authorities will accept unwanted prescription drugs and ensure car seats are installed safely this weekend.

Two free drug take-back events will be held this weekend: one in Petaluma and one in Rohnert Park. The Petaluma event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Petaluma Community Center, 320 North McDowell Blvd.

The Rohnert Park event will also include a car seat safety check, and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the CHP's Rohnert Park office, 6100 LaBath Ave.

Local law enforcement agencies partner with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency each year to dispose of unwanted and potentially dangerous prescription drugs, and officials say an April event in Santa Rosa yielded 500 pounds of drugs.

Both drug take-backs are free and anonymous, the CHP and Petaluma Police Department said in press releases.

Officials will also check the installation of car seats at the Rohnert Park CHP event.

"Officers have found that in most cases, child safety seats are installed incorrectly," the CHP press release states.

Drive-up visitors will be welcome, but appointments are encouraged and will take first priority. Appointments for the car seat check can be made by calling 707-588-1400.

Children can also get free ID cards from New York Life, and the Petaluma-based Polly Klaas Foundation will be on hand to provide information on keeping kids safe from abduction.
