Fundraiser Friday for Petaluma Kindergartner Injured in Crash

Jazzlin Mejia, 5, sustained neck and spine injuries in the head-on accident last week.

A Petaluma kindergartner remains hospitalized after a deadly head-on crash near Sonoma Raceway last week, and her school will hold a fundraiser for her Friday night.

The Mary Collins School at Cherry Valley will hold an open mic night of children's performances at 6:30 p.m. Friday to raise money for Jazzlin Mejia. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will start with food and baked goods for sale.

The school is located at 1001 Cherry St. in Petaluma.

Attendees wishing to donate can bring checks made out to "Jazzlin Mejia Trust Fund." Donations to that fund can also be made at any Exchange Bank location in the North Bay.

A fundraising website set up for Jazzlin has already raised more than $13,000, and contributions are also being accepted by PayPal here.

The Petaluma Argus-Courier reports that Jazzlin, 5, suffered neck and spine injuries in the Oct. 29 crash on Highway 121. Her father broke both of his legs in the crash, the newspaper said.

The driver of the other car is suspected of being drunk, and a passenger in his car died at the scene, the Argus-Courier reported.
