Why was the conversation disrespectful? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm not sure anyone said he should 'get off easy,' but 5 years for going nuts and hitting people…Read More sounds a bit excessive. By your logic, every drunken knucklehead who gets into a bar brawl and then runs from authorities should get a mandatory 5 years? If this sounds right to you, I'd love to see your approach for balancing the federal budget.

The New Yorker is much more than a "Pizza Joint" with authentic Italian dishes to die for,…Read More great vibe, family atmosphere, a long history in Petaluma, take-out service and an owner who deserves your business. The location is safe, convenient and well-lit next to the Shutterbug photo shop.- Something positive this way comes.

So an unprovoked elbowing and punching attack on six innocent folks, leading to concusion and…Read More dislocated shoulder, and then runs from the cops makes you think he should be let off easy. Suppose it was your guiltless wife, daughter, sister, etc., that ended up with them bruised eye and concusion? I don't want this guy anywhere near me or mine...five years off the street was not enough. And I don't care what color his skin is or how many tats he has. His actions scream out-of-control animal!

At least we made innocent motorist prove their innocence without any probable cause.

I wish all drivers who deliberately break our laws in driving without proper crednentials would have…Read More their cars impounded. . If anyone should be injured by one of these unlicensed drivers who does not carry insurance as well, we put the whole community in jeopardy of serious consequences.Impound all cars that are not being driven with responsibility

All the kids who recently attended the Junior Police Officer academy will be upset to hear this news…Read More as they loved meeting Rico. Hopefully Rico will get well soon.

Thoughts & prayers for Rico. Get well soon champ! Well wishes & love...

Perhaps if the local police officers' selection processes did better screening for officers who are…Read More more honest and truly cared about the people they serve they might find their problems with policemens' mental health would drop. I have been in this community for 40 years and throughout the 70's whenever I met an officer, under any circumstances, I believed him to "be my friend" as I was taught in grade school. Beginning in the 80's and since the selection process seems to have specialized in acquiring individuals who are lower than 70th percentile, are hostile to the public and apparently missed their education in Constitutional law. Maybe the local police should examine themselves. The community could use far fewer bullies and far more educated constables.

They most likely traded the other 250 cards for drugs & other contraband. Pretty low life…Read More action. It annoys me the nerve of criminals...

Giving a ticket for riding a bike on the wrong side of the road. Petaluma PD - your the bad part of…Read More this town!
Offramp April 5, 2013 at 03:01 pm
It is good to hear. But don't think that the police made all that money. The police normally get…Read More little and often nothing from the tickets they write. Cities get a little, counties get some, the courts get a pretty good share for building, operating and security, emergency medical services get some for cleaning up after crashes, the State gets some, there is some for getting DNA samples from those in jail, and the list goes on.
If anyone really wants to protest the cost of a ticket, there is a foolproof way to do it, to thwart their evil, money grubbing intentions. Just don’t break the laws! No violation, no ticket, no revenue generated to the government! What could be simpler? Done deal. Starve them with compliance.
Active Thinker April 5, 2013 at 12:49 pm
Good to hear. The police just made at least $12,720 in one day! yeah...great work

Everyone has friends & family! It would be nice if people started doing 'the right thing' turn…Read More him in...

Seems like Petaluma is slowly catching on DON'T DRINK & DRIVE! Extend it to the golf course…Read More & you will really be covered... Just sayin...

Good. No DUI's! That's a good thing. No lic. then no driving! Great work! I wonder the cost of…Read More this...and I don't care who it is funded by...it's us the tax payers who pay for it.

Great job for the fire department and nice work having a smoke alarm!

That is so sad, for that woman to live that long, and then have some person who should've been…Read More wearing sunglasses run her over in the crosswalk. The pedestrian always has the right of way! My prayers are with her family.

Here's my two cents worth: It's completely impossible to know what went wrong so maybe we should…Read More wait and let the facts dictate a response before we assign blame. One thing all of us can learn from this is to get a small fire extinguisher, learn how to use it and keep it handy in case of a car fire. How many of you commenting have done just that?
The other thing that we can do is to require that all drivers of commercial vehicles have training in response to emergencies such as this, and require that there be a means by which drivers and passengers of commercial vehicles can communicate effectively.
Everyone likes to think that they would "do the right thing" in an emergency like this. But without training, none of us really knows. As emergency personnel will tell you, if you've been trained adequately to respond to an emergency, your training takes over and kicks in. You don't have to "think" per se.
May God bless those who died and bless their family and friends. I'll remember them in my prayers.

Maureen, no apology, I stand by my comments.
The driver pulled over so passengers could get out. He…Read More did not go into the car and help anyone. Nurse Arrellano opened the back door. She did not go into the car and help anyone. They both did something, yet in public opinion neither did enough.
By the way, let me borrow your words, if I may... "Who are you to judge" the driver, Maureen? Hello, Pot, my name is Kettle, nice to meet you.

Why would they do something as stupid as this? I believe we came to this Country for freedom. Who in…Read More their right mind can tell me what's good for me? Why do we pay taxes to be basically controlled? This is an out rage. For all you Free Mansons out there. This is one more thing to add to the list. Quit trying to be in control of our lives. If were endangered, we'll call you.

This sounds like a witch hunt to me! So the next time I am on a golf course instead of looking out…Read More for the Marshall will now get stopped in a "DUI" checkpoint? And since you are not allowed to bring alcoholic beverages onto the golf course, he must have been overserved by the mobile alcohol salesperson or overserved by Rooster Run. Would this now make Rooster Run liable for this?
There are much better ways to be spending our tax dollars!
Concerned Citizen May 2, 2013 at 12:10 pm
When you are a Police Officer, you are held (and should be held) to a "higher" standard.…Read More The irony is that the officer involved was one of the main PPD employees responsible for the DUI Enforcement program in Petaluma (if the reporting is accurate). And officers do hand out tickets and make arrests for DUI on Scooters, Bikes, Horses, when someone is walking, you name it. That anyone could blow a 0.11 BAC in the daytime, on a public property, with law enforcement responsible for the event being held, and drive anything is not only irresponsible, but and indication of other potential problems that I hope get addressed.

so sorry to see this. I think it'd be safer if women didn't carry valuables in their purses. maybe…Read More better to wear vital items instead? Since our clothing has such a lack of pockets, maybe google PortaPocket...it'll help you help yourself.
