Zach Stahl, Neighbor

I write news stories for multiple Patch sites in San Mateo County, including Millbrae, South San Francisco, San Bruno and Burlingame. I specialize in government and political stories but also enjoy writing about local bands and artists.
Last August I moved to San Francisco from Salinas (just east of Monterey) where I was a staff writer for the Monterey County Weekly (hence the 831 area code). When I joined the Weekly in 2006, I quickly became the go-to guy for the most expansive and challenging beat, the gritty streets of working-class gang-riddled Salinas.

I penned some of the paper's most talked about cover stories--from a political profile of the county's controversial sheriff to unraveling the
financial downfall of two local agricultural giants.
Before writing for the Weekly I covered gang violence and city budget woes for the Salinas Californian where I won two California Newspaper Publishers Association awards for public service and investigate reporting.
In addition to writing, I work as a substitute teacher for Bay Area schools.
