Police Officer May Have Been Drunk Driving at Golf Course

According to a story in tomorrow’s Press Democrat, Petaluma Police Officer Ryan McGreevy may have had a bit too much to drink at last fall’s Annual Police Golf Tournament when he got behind the wheel of a golf cart.

“Ryan McGreevy, honored for his work in 2007 by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, is facing a single misdemeanor count of driving under the influence following the spill on the Rooster Run Golf Club fairway.”

The annual event was held to benefit the department’s hostage negotiation team. Alcohol was served at the event, and witnesses said McGreevy appeared “boisterous,” according to the Press Democrat story.

McGreevy, who was off duty at the time, “hopped on a fellow officer’s scooter and took off across a fairway,” then crashed at the fourth hole.

Although he was taken to the hospital, no field sobriety or blood alcohol tests were taken at the time of the incident, according to his lawyer Michael Li.

Charges were filed Jan. 27 by the district attorney, and a personnel investigation is underway, according to the report.
