Arrest for Suspected DUI Made In Sunday Hit-and-Run on Ely

A 21-year-old Petaluma man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence Sunday afternoon after reportedly hitting a parked trailer and fleeing the scene, according to police.

The Petaluma Police Department at 12:45 p.m. received multiple calls from citizens who reported seeing a white Nissan Pathfinder driving recklessly at a high rate of speed in the area of Ely Boulevard South.

The callers stated the Nissan had major damage to the driver’s side and the right front tire was flat and appeared to have been in an accident, police said.

Another caller stated the Nissan had collided with a parked travel trailer in the 800 block of Ely.

Arriving officers found a parked, unoccupied travel trailer which had sustained a considerable amount of damage, police said.

They followed a path of debris from the collision to the 100 block of Rancho Bonito Circle, where they located the white Nissan Pathfinder in a residence driveway, police said.

The Nissan had major damage and the right front wheel was missing the tire, and Conner Zitelli was standing next to the vehicle, according to officers.

When Zitelli saw the officers, he immediately fled inside the residence, police said.

A short time later, Zitelli came out of the residence and was arrested without incident, police said, adding that his blood alcohol was found to be twice the legal limit.

Zitelli was charged with suspected driving under the influence, hit and run and resisting arrest, and was transported to Sonoma County Jail with bail set at $5,000.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to call the Petaluma Police Department at 707-778-4372 and reference PPD Case# 14-0002116.
