Suspicious Device Found on Quarry Street in Petaluma

UPDATE: A Petaluma Street remains closed to traffic Tuesday morning after authorities and a local bomb squad investigated a suspicious device found in a home Monday evening.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports the incident started around 5:30 p.m. Monday after a man on Quarry Street was reportedly despondent and possibly armed.

The newspaper reports the man surrendered without incident, but a suspicious device–possibly an explosive–was found in his home.

PREVIOUSLY: Petaluma Police are cautioning residents to avoid the 900 block of Quarry Street Tuesday morning.

An alert from the department says only that officers are conducting "police activity" in the area, and that road detours are in effect.

A police spokesman has not yet responded to a request for more information. Check back for updates.
